Industrial Accident Causes One Worker Death

BY: Koszdin | Saturday, June 15, 2019.

You should not have to worry about getting injured when you go to work. Regardless of what industry you are in, we know you do what you can to be safe. However, if you need a Los Angeles workplace injury attorney, we are ready to help.

At Koszdin, Fields & Sherry, we are ready to step in and help you through this. Our knowledgeable and experienced team will work to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. Today, we want to discuss a recent work death as well as some safety measure that employers can take.

What we know happened

We have learned that the LAPD is investigating an incident that happened in North Hollywood in early June. Police say they were called to the scene of Tujunga Avenue and Oxnard Street after reports of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle.

When they arrived, they discovered that this was not a pedestrian crash incident. A Los Angeles city maintenance worker lost his balance and fell from the back of the truck. He died on the scene from his injuries.

This incident is currently under investigation, and we are sure the Cal/OSHA will get involved.

Why would a work safety agency want to investigate this incident?

We know that most workplace injuries and deaths are preventable. However, we also know that falls are one of the number one causes of workplace injuries and deaths.

Were this worker and his fellow employees following all protocols?

Was there any safety equipment that should have been used but was not provided by the city?

Workplace injuries can be severe

We know that workplace safety has to be a priority. During the latest reporting year, there were around 2.8 million nonfatal workplace injuries or fatalities reported to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is not uncommon for us to see the following injuries in the aftermath of a work incident:

  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or amputations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries

It is important that employers make safety their number one priority. While we recognize that workers’ compensation insurance covers most instances of work injuries, there are times when the negligence of an employer or third party could lead to more compensation for the injured worker.

We are ready to help

If you or a loved one has been injured in a workplace incident that was caused by the negligence of someone else, you need to consider seeking legal assistance today. At Koszdin, Fields & Sherry, we are ready to get to work on your behalf.
