workers' compensation

The last thing that any worker expects to happen is that they will sustain an injury on the job. However, accidents do occur quite regularly in and around the Los Angeles area. No industry is immune to injury risks for their workers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were approximately 2.8 million total non-fatal workplace injuries or illnesses reported during the latest year of data available. Some of the most common injuries that the attorneys at Koszdin, Fields & Sherry help victims with include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Internal organ damage
  • Lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Amputation injuries
  • Severe strains or sprains
  • Neck and back injuries
  • Occupational cancers
  • Hearing and vision loss
  • Respiratory illnesses
  • Emotional or psychological injuries

Our workers’ compensation attorneys understand that workers are often denied benefits for valid claims. Our goal is to investigate our clients’ work injury incidents in order to secure maximum compensation for their injuries.

Workers' Compensation FAQ

You need to report your California work injury as soon as possible. In general, California workers have 30 days to report their on-the-job injury or illness to their employer. Failing to report an injury or illness within this 30-day timeline could result in the injury victim’s inability to recover workers’ compensation benefits in California.

Additionally, employees need to be aware of the workers’ compensation claim statute of limitations in California. If you fail to file an Application for Adjudication of Claim within one year of becoming aware of your injury or illness, you may lose your right to file an injury claim and miss the opportunity to secure compensation for your medical expenses and lost wages.

Social Security Disability (SSD) is designed to provide monthly income to those who sustain an injury severe enough to keep them from working for 12 or more months. Anyone with a qualifying physical or mental impairment should be able to receive SSD benefits. Unfortunately, the vast majority of those seeking SSD benefits are turned down after their initial application. However, there is an appeals process for SSD, and the team at Koszdin, Fields & Sherry is ready to help.
