One Killed And Many Injured In Gas Line Explosion

BY: Koszdin | Friday, July 12, 2019.

Nobody should have to worry about getting hurt at work unexpectedly. However, when an injury does happen, you may need to secure the assistance of a Los Angeles workplace injury attorney. At Koszdin, Fields & Sherry, we are here to help you through this. Our qualified and experienced team will investigate what happened in your case so we can secure the compensation you need now. Today, we want to discuss a recent explosion that killed a gas company employee and injured others.

What Happened In This Case?

Today, we want to discuss the recent gas explosion that rocked Murrieta. On July 15, fire crews responded to an explosion that left one worker dead and injured 15 other people nearby.

At around 11:30 a.m. that day, crews from Southern California Gas Co. arrived at a home to begin repair work on a gas line. Around 30 minutes later, an explosion occurred, killing the gas company employee. Another employee was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, and three firefighters were among the injured. Crews were able to shut the gas off by 1 p.m.

  • Wade Kilpatrick, 31, has been identified as the Southern Gas Co. employee killed in the explosion.
  • He worked for the company for 11 years.

An investigation is currently underway, and the cause of the explosion is not yet clear. We know that both gas company employees and firefighters have dangerous jobs, but they should never have to worry about being killed due to a gas line explosion.

Was there negligence or carelessness on the part of anyone involved?

A new story says that a preliminary investigation reveals that the workers were repairing a gas line that was damaged by a private solar contractor. Investigators say that the contractor did not call 811 to determine if any utility lines were nearby.

There will be many questions about liability as this case moves forward. This case could very well turn into a wrongful death claim along with several personal injury claims, possibly against the negligent solar contractor. We know that the victims and their families are facing tremendous expenses as they move forward.
